Rest In Peace Frank Wade

Frank S. Wade was the devoted husband of Anne for 64 years and the proud father of seven: Matt, Claire, Maggie, Anne, Polly, Dan and Nancy. He delighted in his ten grandchildren who adored him dearly.

Born in Cleveland, Frank was preceded in death by parents Frank and Apolonia (nee Jendrzejewski) Wojtkiewicz and brother, Edward. He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary grade school in Slavic Village. A 1948 graduate of Benedictine High School, Frank went on to Ohio University where he was a proud Phi Kappa brother. He served two years in the U.S. Air Force as 1st Lieutenant assigned to the National Security Agency in Washington, D.C.

Frank had a strong mind for business. He enjoyed the challenge of running a company and did so successfully as President of Quality Bolt and Screw. He also served on the Board of Directors of Independence Bancorp and Enterprise Bank. Generous with his time, he was a past Board Chairman for the Jennings Center for Older Adults. Frank was a dedicated family man, and he took a keen interest in all their lives. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and provided opportunities for family bonding with annual trips to Hilton Head, Rehoboth Beach and Deep Creek Lake. Story telling, logic riddles, silly songs, and creative games will be cherished forever. Frank was a man of strong faith. He and Anne were active members of St. Pius X parish for many years. Other interests included golfing, attending Cleveland Browns games, travel and playing softball. He also became a well-regarded softball umpire in the Bedford League. Frank was a leader and a problem solver and loved a good challenge. These qualities were where he made a tremendous impact on so many young lives: coaching and organizing youth sports. He began coaching boys basketball at St. Pius X in 1965, leading his teams to numerous championships until 1972. He later coached basketball and softball at both Chanel and Lumen Cordium High Schools and managed the Chanel CYO basketball league. Frank liked to figure out how to turn a group of kids of varying abilities into a strong cohesive team. He is remembered by his players as a passionate coach focused on technique, who planned every practice to run with utmost efficiency. In his later years, Frank's love of a good challenge continued. He was fiercely competitive, always up for a round of euchre, hearts and gin rummy, He and Anne worked daily crosswords, pored over jigsaw puzzles and crushed opponents in Words with Friends. His sharp wit shined through when he honored his Polish heritage by choosing "Kielbasa Kid" as his player name on Words with Friends. Frank's commitment and dedication to family, youth and community touched many lives. His legacy will live on in our hearts forever. Friends may call on Sunday, May 9, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Fortuna Funeral Home, 7076 Brecksville Road, Independence, Ohio 44131.
